DIY String Art

Like many others, I take to Pinterest for many DIY projects. One that I have been waiting a long time to try is string art. It actually turned out a lot better than I thought it would, and really wasn't very difficult.
Materials:
  • Wood (about an 1" thick)
  • Scissors
  • Paint
  • Paint Brush
  • String
  • Hammer
  • Nails
  • Stencil (I got mine off printmonkey.com)
  • Tape

First thing to do is paint your piece of wood. This step is optional. I painted mine white but of course the color is completely up to you. Make sure to paint both sides and all edges. Let it dry for a few hours.
Next take your print and cut it out creating a stencil. Using the tape, tape the stencil down onto the wood. Now you can start to putting the nails in. I suggest to start at the corners to make sure the stencil doesn't move.

Now you can begin to fill in with more nails. The idea is to hammer the tip of the nail into the wood only enough for the head to stand out. I eye-balled mine, you can add as many or as little as you want. This part can be kind of tedious, be careful to not to hammer you finger, I may or may not have done that a couple of times. Oops!

Here comes the (in my opinion) fun part! Take your string and tie one end of it to the head of one of the nails. Next weave the string around the head of the nails. This will create an outline of the shape. Do this a couple of times until the outline is as thick as you want it.

You can keep your design like this or you can continue by taking the string and keep weaving it in random patterns. I think both are cute but it's completely up to you.

That's it! I chose the letter "F" because I made mine as a birthday present for my friend. I really want to do one of a state or even the outline of a country! This is a really simple project that's super cute and can spice up any room!

Challenges

I don't know if it's just me, but I really like challenges. I especially love the ones on Pinterest that are like "take a picture every day challenge" or "30 day clean eating challenge". I just like to be able to prove to myself that I am capable of achieving something bigger than I am. My only problem is that I always want to do these year/month-long challenges but I don't see them until it's too late. For example, I was just playing on Pinterest when I came across a really cool April Photo Challenge but then realized it's already April 5th.... do you see where I'm going with this? Never to fear, though, I have found a few challenges that don't require you to stick to the calendar:

  • 30 Day Water Challenge
    • Every day for 30 consecutive days drink a minimum of 64 oz of water. I am currently doing this. This is a great challenge to help clear up your skin, detox your body, and just give you more energy. Instead of drinking that soda that tastes great, will help break you out and make you feel sluggish, have a glass of water. I'll make sure to post a follow up post about my experience with this challenge.
  • 100 Happy Days Challenge
    • This is another challenge that I'm doing. Every day for 100 days post something (on social media) that makes you happy. There's more information at 100happydays.com . This challenge has really made me feel more grateful and appreciate the smaller things in my everyday life.
  • 30 Day Open Letter Challenge
    • Every day for 30 days write a letter to someone/something different. I totally stole this off of tumblr. This seems like a really fun challenge especially if you like to write. Who knows, maybe you can actually give these letters to  the people you have written them to!

  • 25 Songs 25 Days challenge
    • I found this one on Pinterest. This is a really great challenge if you're more music oriented.

Obviously not all of these challenges are social media oriented, but it's still important to log them. Wether it be a notebook, on your computer, or even a random piece of paper, write down the challenges you do. It will help you stay on top of it plus they can be fun to look back on after some time. There will also definitely be a follow up post on the 30 Day Water Challenge. Let me know if any of y'all try one of the challenges above or have a different challenge that you might want to share!

Spring Break Playlist

Now that it is officially spring, we can kiss those dreary, winter days goodbye. One thing that has helped me get into a happier and warmer(?) mood is new music!!! This playlist is also great for Spring Break, it doesn't matter if you're going old school and having a classic stay-cation or you're hitting the beach, this playlist covers it all. Hopefully the songs below will ease the snow-to-sun transition :)

Epcot: Spring Break 2015

As I mentioned in my last post, for Spring Break 2015 I went to sunny Orlando, Florida. I had such an amazing and relaxing week! A definite highlight of the trip was when I went to Epcot. Epcot is my all time favorite Disney park because it combines the magic of Disney with 11 different countries. Needless to say, my inner 5 year old self along with my wanderlust heart were bursting at the seams.

While we were there Epcot was preparing for it's flower festival (left).

We started the day by going on an attraction known as "The Journey to Imagination" which defiantly got my kindergarten self excited and ready for the day. Next we went to the pavilions. Starting with Canada and stopping in the UK for lunch. We continued on to the different countries and then went to the "Soarin'" attraction which is probably my favorite attraction at Epcot. You are lifted up and taken all through out the state of California with an interactive simulator; it feels like you can fly!

The highlight of my day was when we went to Morocco, and I got to meet no other than Prince Aladdin and Princess Jasmine themselves (under Morocco). I kid you not when I say that that moment was the best minute of my entire life. I know I am only 16 years old, but getting a picture with my favorite childhood princess and prince made me stop breathing. Naturally, I was speechless except for the 10 "thank you"s I babbled at the end.

All in all, I had an amazing day at Epcot. Below I'll have pictures of different stuff I did through out the day.

Canada:

UK:

France:

Morocco:

There was no better way to end the day than with this breathless view:

Let me know if you guys want individual posts about each pavilion! Also make sure to follow me on Pinterest for more travel and Disney stuff!

Travelling to The Caribbean; Mistakes

In September 2014, I received an email from my cousin inviting me to the Turks and Caicos Islands for Spring break that following March. Immediately I started to research the island. I only knew about 4 people who had been, all with the same yet different stories about their time there. For those who don't know, TCI, are British islands in the Caribbean.
The following months, I took to Pinterest and the internet to learn about the islands and what the best places were. I learned we were staying in Sandals Beaches All Inclusive Resort. I saw many posts about what to do and what to bring, but not many on what not to do or mistakes made.

First thing I learned; Sunscreen is your best friend
I live in Texas, I've had my share in the sun. I am also very pale. I knew it would be sunny and 80-84°F the whole week. I packed my best sunscreen but it failed. I didn't get to to burned but, yeah I was burned. Top of my back, arms, top of my feet, shoulders, and cheeks...     Thankfully it has turned into an interesting tan.  Just make sure you bring the right kind and apply every time you get out of the water or are in and out of the sun.

Bring.Bugspray.
I can't stress this like even if you think you don't need it, whats the harm? Put a small bottle of it in your sunscreen bag. Bug bites+Sunburn= not fun. I gained about 5 on one leg in a night. Most people will be outside almost their entire visit, just bring it and thank me later.
Not my photo>
Sleeping
Sleep is important, but so is being able to do and see everything. I stay up late and wake up late on my school breaks. On this trip I stayed up from 9-11pm, and then woke up between 7:30-8:30 everyday. Don't waster your day by sleeping in until noon, you're on vacation enjoy that, sleep at home.
Ignore the bad quality of this, this is the room I stayed in where I apparently do not have any photos, just video, so I screenshotted this from the video of where I stayed.

Food and Drinks
 Lemonade
 Strawberry Daiquiri
 Shirley Temple
 Strawberry Daiquiri

Sorry, I just love how cute their drinks are??? First thing to know, TCI is British territory. You're legal to drink there at 18. I was given alcohol in one of my drinks without me asking (no I didn't drink it all, I drank like 5? sips) but I was also asked multiple times if I wanted some, which I declined.

So, at Beaches, it is all inclusive, aka the food and drinks are all free. The one problem I had with this is, we had a villa with a fridge stocked with drinks but no food. If you are like me, and are a picky eater, I suggest you bring snacks. Eating out is fun but sometimes you just need something at home when you're hungry then. Sure you could go out to a restaurant open late, but something quick and easy? I only brought gold fish and chex mix because we were suppose to have some food in the fridge but we didn't which is fine, it just left me hungry sometimes.

Packing
You're at the beach. I was there Saturday to Friday, the whole time I wore my swimsuit with a coverup on top. I brought 8  pairs of shorts(Nike, cotton, etc) and 2 jean shorts, 2 pairs on jeans, and a skirt, then a bunch of tops, 3 sweaters, 2 dresses, and a few other items. (we get 50lb in our suitcase and thankfully summer clothes are lighter than winter clothes.) I wore 5/10 shorts, my WDW tank top, another shirt, a shirt I bought there, pretty much the whole time.
The only exceptions were when we did family pictures and when I went out to a 'nice' dinner. Only bring what you need, especially since you will probably be in the water most of the day.

My suitcase was 41lb going and coming back 47lbs. (I had to put some stuff in my cousins bag). So be careful with what you bring, and plan ahead.

Ok that is all, I hope you enjoy. Sorry for it being long? I'll have a new post soon about the actual Turks and Caicos experience! Thank you for reading(:

Spring Break Bag: Orlando

How is it already March; I could have sworn that it was Christmas only last week! As the warm weather slowly approaches, I guess it means that Spring Break is upon us. This year my family and I are going to Orlando, Fl for a week to relax by the pool and enjoy the much needed 70 degree weather. In the spirit of this much needed break I've decided to do a what's in my spring break bag!

Bag:
This is my Vera Bradely "Weekender" duffle bag in the pattern in Safari Sunset. I got this a couple of years ago for my birthday. It's really roomy and has a zipper on the outside on one side, and on the other has two big pockets. There are also a couple of pockets on the inside which come in handy as well.

Clothes:

I don't know about y'all but my favorite part of when I read posts about travel bags is the clothes inside! The tank top, from Pull and Bear is really nice and casual because of the semi open back and lace at the bottom. The denim shorts are from Lucky Brand Jeans, and the gold sandals are from Silvia Tcherassi. This would be something that I would wear out into town or while walking in Downtown Disney.

This outfit is also something I would probably wear to go out during the day of if we go to one of the Disney Parks. The t-shirt is from Roots Canada, the shorts are also from Lucky Brand Jeans, and the sandals, I've had them for a while, are from Ralph Lauren.

This 3rd outfit is also pretty simple. The two new items is a bright tank top from American Eagle and a gray sweater from Ann Taylor
This dress I got from Nordstrom and it would be something nice to wear if we go out to dinner or something semi- formal. If it get's cold I can also pair it with the gray sweater.

Now to the swim suits! I'm only bringing two since we're only going to be there for a week. The top one is from Old Navy and I am obsessed with the colors! So pretty!!! The tankini is from Target and I love the polkadots as well as the halter strap that I can always remove to avoid the award tan lines ;)

This pretty much sums up what I'm bringing in my spring break bag. I'm also bring a pair of Nike shorts and old school t-shirts to wear as pool cover-ups and of course a pair of flip flops, but that's all boring stuff. If y'all want to see what makeup I'm bring to Orlando, leave a comment and let me know! Also comment where y'all are going for spring break vacation or if you're having a stay-cation and relaxing at home :)

Good Tunes

Hey y'all! I don't know if it's just me, but music is an outlet for all of my extra energy. Although I don't have much musical talent, I can listen to it for hours. This playlist is one that just helps distract you when life gets frustrating or when you want to have that dance party for one in your bedroom. Hope y'all enjoy!
